A novel system to visualize aerial weapon scoring system (AWSS) using 3D mixed reality

Mixed reality, which combines virtual images and real-world environment, can be used to visualize exercises on Aerial Weapon Scoring System (AWSS) air-to-ground with much lower risk. This research aims to develop a model system and a visualization technique using combination of augmented reality and virtual reality technology that able to view the results in the training field with the following specifications. The virtual image is built using 3D software and graphics library, while the real environment is a printed map as marker. The marker is tracked by using Augmented Reality (AR) and be viewed using Virtual Reality(VR) headset. The system will show firing animations as well as accuracy score, rocket angle and rocket direction. Once the marker is recognized by the system, its visualization can be viewed using the VR headset. This system is intended for military air-to ground rocket firing training by jet fighters that will aid the pilots in getting the results of exercises from various perspectives and allow the its user to collaborate with each other. These capabilities, we believe, will produce analysis which pilots can use to improve on the next exercises as well as increase the safety of Range Safety Officer (RSO) during exercise.
